Everyone can immediately see that the design of the new Passat differs from the previous generation. And this design has both supporters and opponents, so there are no indifferent ones. Anyway, the car looks majestic and prestigious. And why not, if this is the first model in the Passat’s half-century-long history that has exceeded 4.9 meters in length.
The new VW Passat is built on the same platform as the new Škoda Superb, and in the same factory in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is nice that the creators of the title brand unashamedly adopted many useful things from Škoda’s Simply clever solutions. However, the Passat is still the flagship of the group, so it has some details beyond the reach of even its closest relatives.
The motorization program includes both gasoline and diesel engines. The basic engine functions will be performed by the 150 hp 1.5 eTSI gasoline engine, while the 2-liter TDI diesel engines will be available in 3 different capacities. The most powerful of them, namely the 193 hp diesel, as well as the second 266 hp two-liter gasoline turbo engine, will be equipped with the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
In addition, with time – there will even be a rechargeable hybrid that will be able to drive up to 100 km electrically. Thus, the Passat will also be a bit of an electric car. All engine versions are equipped with a DSG gearbox, controlled by a lever under the steering wheel – and you know, it’s very convenient.
