“Muscles, joints and bones do not like inactivity.” Listen to a conversation with Latvian Olympian doctors in the “Star Fm” column

The doctor emphasizes: for bones to be strong, they need stress. The same is true for joints, cartilage, tendons, ligaments. “In order for them to maintain their strength, there must be a certain load. Also for the muscles,” said sports doctor Kalniņa-Havraneka in the column created in cooperation with the nutritional supplement MAGNEFlex.

The lack of physical exertion is immediately felt in the body. As soon as a person stops exercising, the muscle becomes smaller and weaker. This, in turn, also affects the joints and the skeleton as a whole – the body’s ability to withstand the load decreases, the doctor explains. “It becomes more difficult for the joints to be in their position, thus problems arise,” summarizes the specialist.

When asked what would be the optimal daily physical activity for a person to keep his body healthy for longer, the doctor refers to the recommendations of the World Health Organization. She points out that in an ideal situation, a person should perform a total of 300 minutes of physical activity every week.

“It is necessary both to prevent obesity and to keep the skeletal-muscular system healthy. The organization also requires additional strength work. It’s not enough just to go for a walk. You also need to do some additional exercise. This would be in an ideal scenario,” says the doctor.

She also points out that the doctors would also be happy if you managed to exercise for half as much time a week, namely 150 minutes. If only it were just a quick walk.

Asked whether and in what cases a person would need to take additional minerals in order to keep muscles, joints and bones healthy, the doctor says that the body itself signals this. For example, additional magnesium should be taken if the muscles are weaker, become more tense, because it can also affect the condition of the joints.

“Magnesium is an extremely studied mineral in recent years. It has been established that the body needs and needs it because it participates in various biochemical processes. One of its disadvantages in the body is if we don’t take in enough, and the other is if we use it up quickly. This especially applies to professional athletes, very active people. They use up magnesium faster,” explains Kalniņa-Havraneka.

The doctor describes the Type II collagen included in the nutritional supplement MAGNEFlex as “different” than that found in other preparations. Native collagen, which is included in the nutritional supplement developed in Latvia, works faster and also treats inflammation in the joints. “It could be that people get better feelings faster and the symptoms decrease,” says the specialist and invites everyone to try to move every day, which is the main way to keep the body healthy.
