Grandfather is shot because of property – nra.lv

Targeted and one might say cold-blooded murder only for the property values. The killer shot his loved one under the cover of darkness through the kitchen window and even entered the house to steal a wallet.

As informed by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Latvia, on March 20, 2024, the Vidzeme District Court, while considering a case in which two men were held criminally responsible – one for murder with greedy intent and theft and the other for supporting murder with greedy intent – announced a summary judgment, which found the defendants guilty of the said crimes and sentenced the perpetrator of the murder to imprisonment for 18 years and probation supervision for two years, while the abettor of the murder – with imprisonment for 13 years and probation supervision for one year. At the same time, the court made a side decision, with which it was established that two witnesses had given false testimony. The decision has been sent to the investigative body for pre-trial procedural actions.

The murderer was the grandson of the murdered and one of his two heirs. He committed treason against his father-in-law because he believed that the grandfather was going to sell his real estate and was also cutting down the forests he owned, thereby significantly reducing the inheritance of his grandson as an heir. This was also the reason why thoughts appeared in the man’s head, the consequences of which are tragic – driven by greedy motives, he decided to kill his grandfather.

According to the indictment, the accused took out a hunting weapon – a shotgun – registered in his name from the gun safe in his possession and handed it over to another person, who, knowing about the accused’s intention to kill his grandfather, decided to support it and agreed to store the weapon in his possession. Several days later, at the defendant’s direction, the accomplice of the murder placed the firearm in the car he was using, in which the defendant later drove to the house where the grandfather lived.

When he came to the kitchen window of the grandfather’s house and saw that the grandfather was in the kitchen, the accused shot the victim in the head with a loaded shotgun through the glass of the kitchen window. After committing the murder, the man entered the victim’s residence and stole his wallet.

During the commission of the murder, the second accused continued to support the criminal activities of the perpetrator of the murder by performing work duties in the security company instead of him. While in the car assigned to perform work duties, he met the victim’s grandson at a pre-arranged place, where he received approximately 140 euros from him. In addition, later, in order to hide the traces of the criminal offense committed by the other defendant and the objects obtained by crime – the stolen grandfather’s wallet with its contents -, the supporter of the murder burned it in the oven while at his residence.
