It is also planned to create a new prosecutor’s office in order to improve the coordination of the fight against organized crime, the minister added.

He informed that criminals who provide information about their impersonators and evidence of their criminal activities will be provided with protection and a reduced sentence.

Dupont-Moretti stated that French laws should be based on the so-called “pentito” (repentance) model, which is widely used by Italy in the fight against the mafia.

The minister expressed the opinion that the current advantages for those criminals who agree to cooperate with the authorities are not effective and are too narrow.

According to him, the jurisdiction of special courts should be expanded in cases of organized crime, which are made up of only professional judges and not sworn citizens.

Dipon-Moretti’s proposals are largely in line with those of French anti-mafia organizations.

The main goal of the minister is to target gangs of drug smugglers with the help of the new norms.

In recent weeks, the French police have arrested more than a thousand drug dealers.
