Young floorball players from Cēsis region show their skills, winning awards and even titles. The girls’ teams finished the season particularly successfully, which leads to the conclusion that the women’s team “Lekrings” is growing a strong team.
Cēsis can quite safely be called a metropolis of floorball, almost every issue of “Druvas” in the last few weeks has to write about the success of our teams at the end of the state championships. So far, it has been reported about the achievements of adults, but there are also good results for young athletes.
The U12 team “CPSS/ Lekrings” returned home with the championship title. In the regular tournament, the girls took third place, only one point behind the second place won by “Rubene/KSS”, and two behind the leader team “Mārupes NSS”. This led to believe that the fight for medals will be fierce and exciting. Both victories and losses were celebrated with these teams in the games of the regular tournament as well.
In the semi-finals, “CPSS/Lekrings” met the team “Rubene/KSS”, winning a minimal victory with 3:2. The goals were scored by Katrína Rone, Elizabete Malnača and Elīna Ulme. In the final, the match against Mārupe’s peers, the taste of victory in the semi-final helped the “CPSS/Lekrings” team more this time. In the first half, E. Malnača and K. Rone scored 2:0 for their team, but as Mārupe tried to fight back, they failed to get more than one shot in the goal. Sabīne Ince performed excellently in the goal of the Cēsi team, saving 25 of 16 shots, and the young players of “CPSS/Lekrings” together with coach Rebekah Lauri could rejoice from the bottom of their hearts for the championship title they won. Especially since this seems to be the first title for the Cēsis City Sports School (CPSS) in the U12 girls group. Team representative Erik Bauer points out that these are the first gold medals in girls’ floorball at the Cēsu Sports School, so the team’s success is especially important. He says that he managed to create a good pyramid, starting from the U10 group team up to the U16, and then the big team. He says: “The U12 girls are training alongside the U14s and this is encouraging growth. Also in the U12 group championship, there are equal teams that promote growth. The girls work with great dedication, this title is really deserved. Some also contribute to the U14 group and will be a good change for the big team!”
Bronze medals were won by the girls’ team of the U14 group. In the semi-finals, the česniece lost to the team “Rīgas lauvas” with 0:4 and met with the Mārupe team in the bronze game. “CPSS/Lekrings” floorball players were determined to end the season with a victory. At the beginning of the second half, the score was 4-0 in their favor, and the team did not relinquish the lead, winning 7-3 and taking the bronze medals. Elizabete Malnača, Evelina Barka and Annie Nikolajeva each scored two goals, Katrína Rone was accurate once.
For girls, in the U16 group, the česniks ranked 5th in the regular tournament, without qualifying for the playoffs.
A not so brilliant season for the boys’ teams, until the medals failed to reach. The highest hopes were for the boys of the U12 group, who regularly finished the tournament in second place. In the first round of the playoffs, they faced the seventh-ranked Coyote team and became a stumbling block for the team. The team that will enter the semi-finals was determined by the sum of two games, and the alarm bells sounded already after the first one, which “CPSS/ Lekrings” lost with 0:4. Although the second game was won 4:2, it was not enough to reach the semi-finals, and the season was over for the Česi.
In the U13 and U14 groups, the “CPSS/ Lekrings” teams remained outside the first eight, not qualifying for the elimination tournament. In the U15, U16 and U18 groups, the teams entered the elimination tournament, but could not overcome the first round. However, as you know, every loss is a step towards new victories, and there will be medals again for the boys’ teams as well.
