Seattle Reign FC is on the road once again this week for its third match of the season. The Seattle side is set to take on San Diego Wave FC. In a rivalry dubbed Clash of the Coolers, these west coast teams are set to meet for the 10th time across all competitions.

STORYLINES: Here’s what to watch for as Seattle Reign FC takes on San Diego Wave FC:

HEAD-TO-HEAD: The Reign leads the all-time series with seven wins, two draws and zero losses against the Wave. The two teams have met four times during the regular season, once in the NWSL playoffs and four times in the NWSL Challenge Cup.

Leader: In the head-to-head series, Reign forward Bethany Balcer has scored the most goals (4). In total, Seattle has had 11 goal scorers against the Wave in nine matches – eight of which are on the active roster for 2024.

MIDFIELD MAGIC: Midfielder Olivia Van der Jagt is the only Reign player to have appeared in all nine meetings with San Diego. She is one of three players to notch both a goal and assist in the series.

HISTORY MAKER: In the Reign’s last match, against the Chicago Red Stars, Ji So-Yun scored her first-ever goal for the team. In doing so, she became the 50th Reign player to ever score for the club, as well as the first Korean player to score a goal in NWSL history. Her goal went on to win NWSL Goal of the Week.

ASSIST: Five Reign players have recorded assists against the Wave. Defender Sofia Huerta leads current Reign players with two, while forward Tziarra King and midfielders Quinn and Olivia Van der Jagt each have one.
