Romania got off to a great start, the only ethnic Romanian [lielākā daļa pārējo ir Transilvānijas ungāri – K.J.] in the application – Roberto Glig – putting the Europeans in the lead.

At the end of the first period, both teams scored within 18 seconds of each other, with Sot Isoga making it 1-1, and 39-year-old Yevgeniy Skachkovs scoring on Romania’s next attack.

This hockey player previously represented several leading clubs in Russia. Skachkov was drafted 221st overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2003, but never played in North America. Skachkov has represented Romanian teams since 2019.

In the first part of the second act, the Japanese attacked dangerously, but the hockey players of the Land of the Rising Sun failed to beat Zoltans-Láslo Toki. In one of the moments, defender Zoltāns Molnārs saved Romania from losing a goal, who at the last moment blocked a Japanese shot into a half-empty goal.

In the 35th minute, Romania’s advantage was strengthened (3:1) by Silards Rocaji.

The Japanese hockey players dominated the final 20 minutes, taking 13 more shots (15-2). The Easterners played back one puck, less than four minutes before the end of regular time Nizhny Novgorod “Torpedo” forward Yu Sato made it 2:3, but they failed to regain the tie, even though in one of the following Japanese attacks, goalkeeper Toke stopped the puck on the goal line.

Romania’s participation in the tournament ended with Finland’s Matias Haranen’s long shot into an empty net.

The Japanese have 12 shots more today (30-18).

In order for Romania to enter the top division for the first time since the 70s of the last century, two conditions must be met: South Korea must take at least a point against the host Italy, and Slovenia, which has ensured participation in the elite, must beat Hungary in any way.
