The Asia-Oceania U18 Hockey Championship started on Tuesday. In the first game of the tournament, Thailand defeated Kuwait 57-0 in one of the most devastating victories in the history of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).

Nine teams are participating in the Asia-Oceania U18 Championship, which will take place in Uzbekistan – Thailand, India, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, as well as Kuwait, for whom this was the first match at the U18 level. The match turned out to be a real disaster.

The Kuwaitis managed to make one shot at the goal of Thailand, failing to make a solo move against the goalkeeper. Meanwhile, Thailand responded with 122 (!) shots, “shooting” the opponent’s goal 42 and 55 times in the first and second periods, respectively, while “only” 25 shots were made in the final 20 minutes”. Six players in the Thai team scored at least 10 points.

Thus, this has become the fifth most destructive success in the history of the IIHF. It is interesting that in 1998, the most ambitious result – 92:0 – was also achieved in the Asia-Oceania Championship, and at that time Thailand was in the role of “victims”, capitulating to South Korea.

Yesterday, Kuwait played the second match of the tournament, where they had to lose again, but managed to score a goal – the match between the Kuwaitis and Malaysia ended with a score of 2:17.
