The head coach of the Latvian U-18 national team, Oļegs Sorokin, has named the national team candidates for the upcoming World Championship, which will take place from April 25 to May 5 in the Finnish cities of Espoo and Vantaa.
Sorokin has included four goalkeepers, 11 defenders and 19 forwards in the pool of candidates.
The national team led by Sorokin will play in the same subgroup with the USA, Slovakia, Finland and Norway at the World Championship.
In preparation for the World Championship, the boys of our U-18 national team played the U-20 tournament in Denmark in November, in December it was held in a camp in Riga, and in February they competed in the U-18 Four Nations tournament in Denmark.
Meanwhile, before the championship, the Latvian U-18 national team will play five test matches in the spring: on April 6 and 7 at the Daugava Ice Hall against Poland U-18, on April 11 and 12 away against Czech U-18, and on April 22 against Sweden.
Herbert Vasiļjevs, Maksims Širokovs and goalkeeper coach Edgars Lūsiņš will assist Sorokin in his work with the Latvian U-18 hockey team this season. On the other hand, Raivis Miezāns will take care of the physical training, while Artūrs Barovskis will perform the duties of the video coach.
