A book is not only a source of information, but also an object of design or art. Starting from the figures and illustrations to the type of binding, the choice of paper and colors, the proportions of the pages and the composition of the layout – all these choices of the artist shape the appearance and quality of the book.

Aleksejs Muraško is a book artist, graphic designer, also interested in the history of butveidols and a book collector. Creates books, magazines, catalogs, typefaces, visual identities and navigation design. Born in Belarus, lives and works in Latvia. He has been awarded with several “Golden Apple” awards and won the third “Artist of the Year” title this year (previously in 2017 and 2019). Although he received his education in criminal law, he later turned to the digital world and learned the skills of a graphic designer himself. “Each of his works is conceptually grounded, carefully executed,” writes “fotokvartals.lv”. On the other hand, the “Fold” portal describes him as the most sought-after, most productive and most awarded book designer in Latvia, whose works are distinguished by practicality, sensitivity, courage and restraint.
