Netanyahu said he had instructed the Israeli delegation to “stand firm for the conditions necessary to release” Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip since the October 7 attack by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, and for “the most important demands to guarantee Israel’s security.” .

Hamas announced on Monday that the group had accepted a cease-fire plan proposed by Egypt and Qatar, which are acting as mediators between Hamas and Israel.

Netanyahu said Tuesday night that Hamas was trying to derail Israel’s offensive in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah by agreeing to a new proposal in the truce talks.

Netanyahu also said in a video message on the X social media platform that military pressure on Hamas was a prerequisite for the release of Israeli hostages during the last ceasefire agreement in November.

Netanyahu admitted that Hamas’s latest cease-fire offer falls far short of Israel’s requirements, which include guaranteeing Israel’s security.

The prime minister added that he had instructed Israel’s negotiating delegation in Cairo to stand firm on Israel’s terms.

Israeli soldiers entered a part of the city of Rafah on Monday evening and took control of the Rafah border crossing on the Gaza side.

Netanyahu said the Rafah operation was aimed at freeing the hostages and defeating Hamas, and called the takeover of the border crossing a “very important step” towards that.

Israel launched a war against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip after the terrorists carried out a massacre in Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking 250 hostages.
