Kara-Murzam was awarded in the category “Comments” for several publications in the opinion section of the newspaper “The Washington Post” in the period from January to October of last year. They are dedicated to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, oppositionist Alexei Navalny, the possibility of political changes and other current topics.

The official statement states that he wrote the inflammatory comments in a prison cell under conditions of great personal risk. The oppositionist has been in prison since 2022, but last April he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for treason, cooperation with an undesirable organization and spreading so-called fake news about the army.

Several other media also received the prestigious award, including the news agency “Associated Press” in the art photography category. They show migrants traveling to the United States from all over the world through Latin America. “Photographers documented the excitement, heartache, and even brief moments of joy associated with this trip,” the statement said.
