Although meat and fish alternatives are in demand mainly among vegans and vegetarians, they may become a trend among omnivores as well. Most of the world’s fish stocks have been depleted, prompting Austrian company Revo Foods to invent 3D food printing technology that allows it to produce products that taste and texture like fish. Since this year, this news is also available to Latvian consumers.

“Mums patīk zivju garša, taču vēlējāmies izvairīties no kaitējuma dzīvniekiem un planētai,” uzņēmuma vadītājs Robins Simsa “Delfi Bizness” skaidro, kā radās ideja par pārtikas 3D drukāšanu.

Viņš stāsta, ka 90% pasaules zivju krājumu ir pārzvejoti vai gandrīz pilnībā izsmelti. Turklāt tradicionālajās zivīs un jūras produktos ir sastopami toksīni – vai tā būtu mikroplastmasa un dzīvsudrabs no okeāna zivīm, vai antibiotikas un parazīti no saimniecībās audzētām zivīm. Tāpēc tehnoloģijas radītāji meklēja alternatīvu zivīm, kas atbilstu gan garšas, gan uzturvērtības ziņā.
