The Bonhams auction, where the world’s only 48-cylinder motorcycle was sold, has ended.

In February, the media reported that an auction of the Whitelock Tinker Toy motorcycle would take place at the end of April. The offer was posted on the Bonhams website and experts predicted that the auctioneers could receive 40 to 60 thousand British pounds.

Now the auction has ended and the outcome is known – the motorcycle has a new owner who paid 92,000 pounds (approximately 107,000 euros) for it.

Tinker Toy is a motorcycle created by British enthusiast Simon Whitelock in 2003, which entered the Guinness Book of Records as a functioning vehicle with the largest number of cylinders.

The Tinker Toy project uses 16 three-cylinder Kawasaki KH250 engines, assembled in six blocks of eight cylinders each. The total working volume is 4.2 liters. A separate 125 cc engine acts as a starter. Some parts are borrowed from other motorcycles, such as brakes and front part from Honda Gold Wing, gearbox from BMW.

Power and dynamic performance have never been measured, possibly because the 600kg vehicle is extremely difficult, uncomfortable and even dangerous to drive even a short distance. At the same time, the Tinker Toy is a fully functional motorcycle that has been issued with a public road permit in the UK.
