Framework Computer is that cool laptop maker that makes computers that are fairly configurable and highly repairable. Inspired by our readers, I myself bought a Framework Laptop 13 earlier this year and have started a long-term test of it. I’ve been using the computer daily for several months now, and apart from the difficulties with Fedora Linux, the overall experience is quite good. I plan to write the next article of this test with the new findings in a few months.
Today I received great news from the company – Framework Computer has raised another $17 million in funding. This is in addition to previously raised $27 million and is intended to improve existing customer and product support, as well as offer new products that may not be laptops. Company founder and CEO Nirav Patel points out that Framework Computer is a consumer electronics company, not just a laptop computer company. Unfortunately, at least for now, he did not specify which new product categories he was talking about. I’m glad that the company’s announcement does not include the currently fashionable term “AI”, or artificial intelligence. At least some company in this world hasn’t gone crazy yet.

Currently, the company offers to buy Laptop 13 and Laptop 16 portable computers, as well as their spare parts and accessories, in the USA and several European countries (the closest one is Poland). It is interesting that the company currently has only about 50 employees and the new financing will help the company to grow by another 10 employees. Framework currently sells its products directly to customers and does not use classic intermediaries in the form of distributors and store chains.
In addition to 17 million dollars from large investors, the company plans to attract another 1 million dollars from the municipality. 100 interested parties will be able to invest 10,000 USD each in the company.
