Marlēna Gudēvica-Liepiņa, representative of the Checkers Development Association (DAB) Cēsi, won the title of champion in the Latvian 64-square checkers championship in the youngest – U8 age group – for girls.
For two days, girls and boys competed for the prized places in separate tournaments according to the Swiss system in eight rounds. Marlena won in the competition of 17 girls, even though she was one of the youngest players. She won six games and tied two for 24 points. The same number of points for another competitor, but better additional indicators allowed the representative of DAB Cēsi to win the championship title. Coaches Zigrīda Liepiņa, Raivis Paegle and Vytauts Budreika could rejoice at the success of their student.
Six checkers from the Cēsis team were represented in the U8 group championship.
Seventh place in the girls’ competition was won by our checkers player Bella Vanaga.
In the U8 age group for boys, Martin Ošenek did best in the competition of 33 participants, who was very close to the podium, winning the fifth place. He has four wins, two draws and two losses. He had ten points, as did four other players, and they shared fourth through eighth places, taking into account additional indicators.
Kārlis Egle, Emīls Jansons and Pēteris Cipe also tried their skills and gained useful experience.
