This year, the unifying theme of the campaign in Latvian museums is to find out and acquire, research and understand, which is related to the theme of the International Museum Day “Museums for education and research”.

Promotional events traditionally take place at an unusual time for museums – after dark, thus inviting you to get to know museums, antiquities repositories and the exhibitions they offer in a different light.

The action in the Southern Kurzeme region will start already on May 10, when the Durbe Museum invites you to a night orienteering game around the city of Durbe, and on May 11, the “Night of Museums” day will take place in Vecpilis, going on an exploratory expedition together with Juri Egli, who determined the power of the Earth and its energy.

On the other hand, on May 18, a personal exhibition of paintings by the artist Pēteras Postaž will be opened at the Aizpute Regional History Museum as part of the “Night of Museums”, as well as activities will take place in accordance with the theme of the promotion.

The evening will end at the Aizpute Roman Catholic Church with the concert “Musical Color Palette” together with flautist Anci Edelmani and guitarist Miķeli Gidendorf.

The Kazdanga Museum will invite you to view the exhibition of weatherboards, in the Apriķi Museum you will be able to get to know the life of the manor and the nobles in the 18th, 19th. and the 20th century, as well as learn about the life of our ancestors and the secrets of the attic of Apriķi manor.

The Bartas Museum, the Vērgales Parish Museum, the Durbes Museum, the Dunalka Antiquities Store and the “Liepājas RAS” Museum of Unappreciated Things are also invited to the promotional events on May 18.

Entrance to museums and antiquities repositories will be free during the campaign.
