On May 28, celebrating Viļas day and announcing the Bauska county holiday “Under the branches of the golden oak”, the concert program “Far shores” by Latvian National Theater actor Raimonds Celms and composer Matīs Žilinskas will be performed in the Saules garden near the Viļas Plūdoņas monument at 7 p.m. It was created, inspired by the romantically imaginative poetry of Viļis Plūdonis, and dedicated to the poet’s 150th birthday, the representative of the Bauska Culture Center, Kristiāna Paula Lībiete, informed the portal.

She notes that the year 2024 in Bauskas county is being celebrated in the name of the county’s poet, Viļas Plūdonis, by organizing a wide cultural and educational program. Two charming and charismatic artists will meet at the Viļas day concert in Saules dārz, who in a sensual atmosphere will live stories about love, nature, friendship, the lust for life and the pleasure of bohemian creative personalities of pre-war Latvia. Voice, poetry, song, playing the piano, imaginative improvisation will allow you to find yourself for a moment in a 1934 Old Riga smoky cafe after midnight.
Matīss Žilinskis is a musician in the fourth generation – a talented pianist, composer, arranger, currently studying at the Jāzeps Vītolas Academy of Music of Latvia and his talent has also been praised by maestro Raimonds Pauls. This is his debut in the implementation of such a large-scale concert program, both as a pianist and as a composer. The music created by Matīs and the poetry of Viļs Plūdonis will be performed on stage by the actor of the Latvian National Theater Raimonds Celms. Raymond has participated in such films as: “Blizzard of souls”, “With foam on the lips”, “Jumprava. The big event”, in the musical “Kaupēn, mans mihliais” and currently works actively in the National Theater as a staff actor.
Matīss Žilinskis chose Vilis Plūdonis’s book “Far Coasts”, published in 1934, from which he composed songs for the poems.

“These compositions had been written for quite some time. It was a good coincidence that Vilis Plūdonis has a round anniversary,” songwriter Žilinskis says in an interview with TV3 about the start of the concert program, who wrote one song, then another, from one book, and then the idea of writing several songs arose.
“It will be a little more than an hour long concert of poetry and romantic melodies. With poetry readings, with our presence. The audience can prepare for an imaginative, poetic little journey in our version of what we have read in the book, what we hear, what we listen to,” says actor Raimonds Celms.
“”Far Coasts” have taken me through adventures, romantic scenes, through the sun and stars already in the process of composing. The carefully selected poetry from the collection “Far Shores” appealed to me very directly as a city dweller, as a romantic, but most directly – as an artist, and I hope it will appeal to you too,” says pianist and composer Žilinskis.

“Vilis Plūdonis was unknown to me until now. I only had a rough idea of his work, this is our first ‘collaboration’. The invitation of young composer Matīs Žilinskis to perform his compositions is very honoring and inspiring. In songs, we try to reveal the secrets of the poet’s poetics with simple means of expression. And it seems that the author himself, as a wise pedagogue, comes to the rescue with timeless advice for us – “future poets”. It seems that the time period between us and Plūdoni is not so big at all and “Far shores” hear and see each other,” reveals actor Celms.
