On May 8 and 9, 2024, the annual training of consular officers of Latvian diplomatic and consular missions abroad will take place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Riga. 47 consular officials are participating in the training, who are currently working or will soon go to work at one of Latvia’s representative offices abroad.

This year’s training for consular officials will focus on the European Parliament elections and their conduct abroad, the risks of disinformation and tools to prevent them. As usual, the officials will increase their knowledge of handling crisis situations and consular communication, as well as discuss cooperation with the State Police in the field of consular assistance. The training will also address the issue of the State Defense Service and the joining of Latvian citizens living abroad. The lessons also include topics on the availability of state-provided services electronically and in Latvian embassies abroad.

Employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and invited experts from the Central Election Commission, the State Chancellery, the Directorate of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and the State Police perform as lecturers.

The training of consular officials has been going on since 1995 and has become a tradition, providing an effective opportunity to exchange information and experience for consular officials working both in the ministry in Riga and in representative offices abroad.
