The waste management company SIA “Zemgales EKO” in cooperation with JSC “AJ Power Recycling” and SIA “3R” invites the citizens of Jelgava to hand over used car tires free of charge on May 11 and 12. SIA “Zemgales EKO” will be able to hand over one set of tires or four passenger car tires from one car to the separated waste collection area. It is important – when entering the square, you will have to show your car’s technical passport, as used tires will only be accepted from car owners registered in the city of Jelgava.

It should be reminded that such an action takes place in the city twice a year – in spring and autumn. In November of last year, almost 700 car tires were handed over for recycling in three days.

Tires can be handed in for free only on these days. In the rest of the time, the separated waste collection areas on Paula Lejiņa street 6, Salnas street 20 and Ganību street 84 accept it for a fee depending on the tire diameter, and the fee for handing over one tire can be from 1.90 to 2.70 euros. Residents of nearby counties are invited to inquire about the possibility of handing over used car tires free of charge in their municipality.

All types of tires are environmentally harmful waste. Tires decompose in the natural environment for more than 100 years, and during this time, various harmful substances can be released into nature, so it is essential that they be recycled. In addition, a fine may be imposed for disposing of used tires. According to the binding regulations of Jelgava, a warning or a fine is applied for throwing waste, including tires, in places not intended for it: for a natural person from ten to one hundred and fifty fine units (50 to 750 euros), and for a legal entity – from fifty to three hundred fine units ( 250 to 1500 euros). If, however, Jelgava residents notice discarded vehicle tires in the city, please report it to the operational information center of the Jelgava municipality on the resident support phone number 8787 or mark it on the interactive map karte.jelgava.lv.
