On Tuesday, 131 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia, in which one person died and 13 others were injured, the State Police informed the LETA agency.

Yesterday, shortly before 5 p.m. in Ogresgal parish, on the Koknese highway, the driver of the “DAF” truck drove off the roadway and the vehicle overturned. The driver of the car was killed in a traffic accident. The State Police has started criminal proceedings for the incident and is investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Yesterday, eight people were injured in accidents in the Riga region, two each in Latgale and Zemgale, and one in Vidzeme. Of the victims, three were pedestrians, and two were drivers of electric scooters.

Yesterday, the police arrested six drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol: three in the Riga region, two in Zemgale, and one in Vidzeme. A driver who had used narcotic substances was also arrested. The three drivers who were arrested were under the influence of such serious intoxication that they were given a criminal penalty, therefore the vehicle will be confiscated or the value of the vehicle will be recovered.

On the other hand, 205 protocols were drawn up for speeding drivers yesterday: 55 drivers were fined in the Riga region, 69 in Vidzeme, 37 in Latgale, 32 in Kurzeme, and 12 in Zemgale.

In total, the police issued 387 protocols for violations of traffic rules yesterday.
