On May 18, the annual Night of Museums will take place in Latvia. The unifying theme of Museum Night in Latvian museums this year is “Explore and acquire, study and understand”. Jelgava Sv. The tower of the Trinity Church with the slogan “The story of the tower through 5 centuries” will be waiting for visitors on the night of the museum from 16:00 to 24:00 to get to know and learn about the new expositions and past stories of the Tower together, participate in various activities to enjoy the city panorama, works of art and music.

This year marks 450 years since Jelgava St. The beginning of the construction of the Trinity Church and also its tower. Museum night activities in the Tower will lead you to learn about the fate and transformations of the ancient church and its bell tower over 5 centuries, as well as present the modern benefits.
From 16:00 to 18:00, an informative lecture in two parts will take place on the 7th floor of the Tower. In the first part with the topic “Initiative of the Duke of Kurzeme Gothard Ketler and Jelgava St. The beginnings of the Trinity Church” will be introduced to those interested by professor, Latvian art scholar Ojārs Spārītis. On the other hand, the second part of the lecture will be led by future art historian, digital technology specialist Sanita Bitko on the topic “In the footsteps of Julius Feder. Jelgava. Gauja. During the actual time of the Night of Museums – from 19:00 to 24:00, everyone is invited to visit the expositions of the history of the Tower “Jelgava’s turning of time”, “Fashion in Jelgava through the centuries” and “The story of Jelgava’s Holy Trinity Church”. to learn the history of the city of Jelgava, fashion and the ancient church. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the exhibition hall with the works of Vita Studente and Zita Studente “Frequencies of Light”, as well as to look at the city panorama from a bird’s eye view in the viewing area.

From 20:00 to 21:00, the tour “Around the Tower” will take place, during which you will be able to get to know the new achievements of the Tower – the large forged gate in the ancient gate arch and a fragment of the ancient bell of the Tower, as well as learn about interesting details of the Tower’s architecture, which we pass by without paying attention on a daily basis. There is no need to pre-register for the tour.
Especially as part of the Museum Night event, visitors will have the opportunity to see a digital exhibition about St. Trinity Church through the centuries, participate in the exploratory game “Tower explorer” and enjoy musical rhymes of the centuries in the Tower courtyard. Participation in all Museum Night activities is free of charge.
During the event, photo/video recording will be done for the purposes of event publicity and public information, creating and reflecting the work process, the use of funds and ensuring the continuity of information for future generations and the development of culture and the preservation of cultural heritage.
