Despite the temporary cold, preparations for the opening of the swimming season, which will take place on May 15 this year, are in full swing in Daugavpils.

In order to make sure that after the winter period there is no damage to the infrastructure or the elements of the lake coast that should be repaired, the Municipal Administration inspected the Central swimming area of the Great Hive Lake and the “Stropu Vilnis” swimming area of the Great Hive Lake, as well as the promenade along its entire length. During the survey, it was found that several waste bins were broken. The damage was promptly repaired so that by May 15, the city’s largest swimming areas would be equipped to please visitors. Of course, other swimming areas of the municipality have not been forgotten either – they are surveyed before the beginning of the swimming season and, if necessary, all necessary improvements are made.

In general, there are three official public bathing places in Daugavpils – the Central beach of the Great Hive Lake, “Hive Wave” and Šūņu lake. However, other recreation spots in the Ruģeli reservoir, Lake Gubišče, Mazaja Stropi, Plotički, Porohovka, Stropak, Great Trijkartu lake, Zirgezer and Esplanade swimming pool are also popular among city residents and visitors. An inspection of changing cabins, tables and other beach elements has already been carried out. In the near future, sand will be added to the places where it is needed. This year, the swimming area in the vicinity of Mazas Ezeru Street is also planned to be improved in Šuņu Lake.

Also this year, water quality tests will be carried out in all the residents’ favorite swimming spots. As usual, it will be done once a month in each swimming area together with representatives of the scientific institute BIOR. After receiving the analysis results, information about the compliance of a specific water body with bathing water quality norms will be published on the municipality’s website and KSP Facebook page.

As every year, the Municipal Police Rescue Service will take care of safety on the water in the two official swimming areas of the Great Hive Lake, but we ask everyone who wants to swim to respect personal safety and adequately assess their abilities and swimming skills.

The Municipal Administration urges city residents and guests to treat municipal property with care and to remember that the funds that are used annually to restore recreation elements could be directed to other important works, such as road repair.
