The show is also a detective, but the genre serves as an enticement to think and talk about very important topics.
Michael, a patient at the psychiatric clinic, is the last person to see Dr. Lawrence before he disappears. On Christmas Eve, the director of the hospital, Greenberg, is called to question the patient.
The conversation between the two will draw the audience into a subtle psychological game that will reveal both Michael’s childhood traumas, his complicated relationship with his parents, and why he is so fascinated by elephants.
The story will also make Greenberg experience several revelations about himself.
D. Petrenko says that his choice of topics is inspired by life itself.
“I’m always interested in young people’s choices and growth.
What is a man today, what is masculinity today, has always been an important topic for me,” says the director.
Michael’s childhood was very difficult, because both parents were not present. This is very relevant nowadays, because one of the parents may be physically present, but emotionally unavailable or does not know what to do.
Psychotherapist Gunta Andžane came to the Liepāja theater’s aid again, who told what happens in a person when he goes through very difficult and difficult things.
“The specialist helped me not to make a mistake, because sometimes we understand psychology at the level of the kitchen.
He tells how it is from a scientific point of view, so that we do not operate in the theater only with our ideas about depression, violence and aggression,” says D. Petrenko.
“My character is a bit disappointed in life, a failed doctor who works as a director,” Edgars Ozoliņš describes Grīnberga.
The actor admits that it is always a challenge for them to work with D. Petrenko and interesting acting, because the director always wants to look for other ways and deal with all levels of the character.
Michael’s actor, Kārlis Ārglis, does not deny that this character is insane, but insanity is not hidden in the diagnosis.
“It lies in the terrible cravings for intimacy and love.
It sounds corny, but if that’s the case, then we’re all insane in some way.
Because the basic human task is to seek love,” says the actor.
“Man’s purpose and desire is to be loved, and not receiving love has consequences accordingly.”
The young actor’s baggage already includes characters in borderline situations, where borders are also violated, they were played in D. Petrenko’s productions “Land of Thebes” and “Yen”.
The actor knows how to distance himself from the roles so as not to hurt himself.
“I am always interested in finding out the reasons behind these events, why people are the way they are.
An actor has to justify his characters, but there are reasons why, for example, Michael is in a psychiatric clinic, and this is not humanely justified. All I can do is try to understand this image and connect empathy as much as I can,” says K. Ārglis.
Premiere on May 9 in the small hall of the Liepāja theater in the “Lielais dzintars” concert hall.
Karina Tatarinova also takes part in the production in the role of nurse Peterson.

The theater does not recommend the show to viewers under 15 years of age.
