her body was washed up by a river in Russia

--

Portal diena.lt reports that the mother of the deceased girl recognized her daughter and her belongings based on photographs obtained from Russia with the help of Interpol. According to the portal, the body was washed ashore by the Nemunas in the Kaliningrad region, near the border point there. It should be reminded that beyond Smalininkii (Jurbarka district) the largest river of Lithuania flows almost to the Curonian dunes along the border between Lithuania and Russia. On April 13, the local media reported on the discovery of the Russian border guards, calling on those who are looking for a missing youth of a similar age to contact them. A woman sent a link to this article to the Lithuanian police. Lithuanian law enforcement officers, having seen the article, contacted Interpol and asked for help. Last week, thanks to the involvement of Interpol, photos of the dead young woman and her belongings were sent to the Lithuanian law enforcement officers from Russia, by which the girl could also be identified. Although the mother has already identified her dead daughter and her belongings from the photographs, the search case will be closed only when the official expert opinions are available. Prosecutor Čepkauskas told the Lrytas.lt portal that he cannot predict how long these forensic examinations will continue and when the remains of the student will arrive from Russia to her family in Lithuania.
