“Daugavpils” keeps the third place, Stevenson wins the victory with an acrobatic shot

On Tuesday, the “Daugavpils” team won the 11th round game of the “Tonybet” Latvian Football Premier League and kept the third place in the tournament table, while in another game, Žedī Stīvensons won the victory for the “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” team with an acrobatic shot during the compensation.

Daugavpils beat debutants Grobiņas SC/LFS in Liepāja with the result 3:1 (3:0). After the victory, “Daugavpils” will end the 11th round in the third position, points ahead of “Valmiera”, which will probably lose three points due to outstanding debts, thus the next followers of “Daugavpils” will be more than one victory away.

Abduls Traore scored two goals for “Daugavpils” and Aleksejs Golijanins added one, while Roberts Meļķis stood out for the opponents. Daugavpils took the lead in the 26th minute, when Traore sent the ball into the goal after an excellent play. Six minutes later, the guests hit the goalpost with the ball and Golijanin made it 2-0 with a second chance, but in the 36th minute, Traore headed in the penalty spot after a cross.

Grobiņa’s team reduced the advantage of the opponents in the 60th minute, when Meļķis made an unerring shot in the crowded penalty area, which ended the three-game “dry” streak of visiting goalkeeper Frank Dāvid Orol.

In another match of the 11th round, “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” beat “Jelgavu” 2:1 (1:0) at home. Kenroy Campbell and Stevenson scored for Tukum, and Rihards Bechers scored for Jelgava.

“Tukums 2000″/”Telms” took the lead in the middle of the first half, when in the 23rd minute, after a pass by team captain Kaspars Anmanis, Campbell made an accurate shot from outside the penalty area. 1:1 Jelgavniki reached at the beginning of the second half, in the 48th minute, Bechera hit the goalkeeper’s unmarked ball into the net.

Less than four minutes before the end of regular time, the ball hit the post after a shot by Campbell. A little later, the Jelgava players put the ball in the goal, but the result remained the same due to the situation at the back. In the first minute of stoppage time, after a cross from Marouan Mihubi, Stevenson made an acrobatic jump from a few meters and hit the ball into the goal and snatched the victory for the home team.

On Sunday, the Valmiera team, despite the club’s problems, beat RFS at home with a score of 2:0 and won the current champion for the second time in the season, while “Riga” was superior to “Auda” with 2:1. On Monday, “Liepāja” lost 1:2 to “Metta” at home.

After 11 rounds, RFS has 25 points, “Riga” team – 24, “Daugavpilij” – 21 and “Valmiera” – 20. Next with 17 points is “Tukums 2000″/”Telms”, 14 points were scored by “Auda”, 11 points have “Metta” football players, while “Jelgava”, “Grobiņa”/LFS and “Liepāja” clubs have eight points each.
