Nature watcher Vilis Bukšs, talking about the weather in May, reveals that already this month it will be very hot.
As Bukš writes in his blog, according to January, the main month of winter and March, the first month of spring, May promises to be a little warmer than usual. In the east of Latvia it is warmer and precipitation is close to average. In the west of Latvia, there is more precipitation and the temperature is within normal limits.
In the first half of May, until Jeremiah (May 14), the weather changes. The beginning of May is mostly dry and sunny. The temperature during the day can reach plus 20 degrees and more. Night frosts are still possible in some places at night, with the temperature dropping below zero. Later, around the Yeti (May 7), the chance of precipitation will increase and possible spring thunderstorms. The temperature during the day is mostly plus 15, 18 degrees, but after May 10 it can approach plus 20 and more degrees again.
In the middle of the leaf month, in apple blossom, mostly warm and sunny, even summer weather. Temperature during the day plus 20, plus 25 degrees. Precipitation is short-lived, but thunderstorms can be accompanied by heavy, gusty rain during this time.
The weather typical of warm May will continue in the second half of May. Sunny days will mix with cloudy ones. In the period before Urban (May 25), the temperature in some places may approach plus 27, plus 30 degrees during the day and will not drop below plus 17 degrees at night. Precipitation is short-lived, but it can be in the form of heavy thunderstorms that can also bring hail. Later, around Pahom (May 28) and at the end of the month, mostly dry and temperatures between plus 15 and plus 20 degrees.
Looking ahead, June, the first month of the calendar summer, appears to be warm and mostly dry.
