The construction of five new pedestrian crossings and the improvement of two existing pedestrian crossings has started in Riga, informs the Department of Outdoor Space and Mobility of Riga City Council. During the implementation of the construction project, pedestrian crossings with adequate lighting will be built in six neighborhoods of Riga – Avotu, Āgenskalns, Juglas, Mežciems, Pētersalas – Andrejsalas and Ziepniekkalns.

At the moment, works are underway in the neighborhoods of Avotu, Āgenskalns, Ziepniekkalns and Mežciems, where additional lighting is being installed and sidewalks are being resurfaced at crossing points.

In the course of the project, five new pedestrian crossings are planned to be built – on Eksporta Street near the entrance to the Riga Trade Port, Kristapa Street near Alīses Street, Murjāņu Street near Veldres Street, Ozolciema Street near the public transport stop “Ozolciema Street” and Valmieras Street near Lienes Street. Also, two existing pedestrian crossings will be improved – on Graudu Street near Ķekavas Street and Malienas Street near Celmu Street. The works are planned to be completed during this year’s construction season.

Adequate lighting will be built at pedestrian crossings and environmental accessibility will be improved at crossing points, as well as the means of traffic management will be replaced. Also, the pavement surface will be renewed and a new addition to the public transport stop “Ozolciema iela” will be built. During the project, two intersections will also be resurfaced – Malienas iela and Celmu iela, Murjāņu iela and Veldres iela, as well as the resurfacing of four pedestrian crossings.

The construction works are carried out by the limited liability company CBF “Ļ-KO”, for the total amount of the contract – 409,761.49 euros, incl. VAT.
