On Sunday, 73 road traffic accidents were registered in Latvia, in which nine people were injured, the State Police informed the LETA agency.
Yesterday, three people were injured in accidents in Latgale, another three in the Riga region, and one each in Zemgale, Kurzeme and Vidzeme. One of the victims was a pedestrian, and another was a cyclist.
Yesterday, the police arrested 11 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol: six in Vidzeme, two each in the Riga region and Zemgale, and one in Latgale. The seven drivers who were arrested were sitting at the wheel of their vehicles in such a serious state of intoxication that a criminal penalty was applied to them, thus the vehicle will be confiscated or the value of the vehicle will be recovered.
On the other hand, 264 protocols were drawn up for speeding drivers yesterday: 36 drivers were fined in the Riga region, 85 in Vidzeme, 59 in Latgale, 57 in Kurzeme, and 27 in Zemgale.
In total, the police issued 503 protocols for violations of traffic rules yesterday.
