“Valmiera” team, despite the club’s problems, beat RFS at home with a score of 2:0 (0:0) in the 11th round match of the “Tonybet” Latvian football superleague on Sunday and won the current champion for the second time in the season. For Valmiera, goals were scored by Žeremī Klemente and Aliuāns Ndoj.
After an intense goalless first half, it took only nine minutes to change the score in the second half. In the 54th minute of the match, after a pass from Lukas Vapne, Clemente made a shot from the edge of the penalty area and made it 1:0, but a little later the Frenchman hit the goal structure.
In the second half of the half, after a foul by Robert Savalnieks against Meisa Diop, with the help of VAR, it was established that a penalty kick should be awarded to the RFS goal. “Pendeli” was performed by Ndoj, who made it 2:0 in the 78th minute. In the last minutes of regular time, after mistakes by the guests, Valmieri had a couple of opportunities to score more goals.
The RFS team had their five-game winning streak snapped. Riga players were undefeated in eight matches in a row, their only defeat in the previous and so far this season was against “Valmiera” in the first round – 0:1.
“Valmiera” is in danger of losing three points in the overall standings for not settling its debts, and the team may be left without the ticket to the qualification of the UEFA Conference League secured in the previous season.
Today, “Auda” will host “Riga” at the “Skonto” stadium. On Monday, “Liepāja” will meet “Metta” at home, while “Grobiņa”/LFS will host “Daugavpili” and “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” – “Jelgavu” on Tuesday.
RFS takes first place with 25 points in 11 games, followed by “Riga” with 21 points in ten matches. “Valmiera” is third with 20 points in 11 matches, “Daugavpils” scored 18 points, and “Audai” and “Tukums 2000″/”Telms” units have 14 points each. “Jelgava”, “Metta” unit, “Grobiņa”/LFS and “Liepāja” have eight points.
The Premier League championship with the participation of ten teams takes place in four rounds, with each team playing 36 games. 180 games are expected to be played until November 9.
Last season, RFS became the champion for the second time, which secured victory only in the last round, winning over “Metta” team with 1:0.
