“Lufthansa Cargo” will operate regular cargo flights to Riga Airport

The German air cargo carrier “Lufthansa Cargo” has started regular cargo flights to Riga Airport, which thus becomes the first Baltic airport with which “Lufthansa Cargo” forms a regular direct cargo connection, the airport’s communication project manager Ilze Salna informed the agency LETA.

The opening of regular cargo flights will allow Latvian manufacturers to plan better and reach new markets faster in the “Lufthansa Cargo” cargo network, as well as for local entrepreneurs to more conveniently and quickly import goods from other countries at competitive prices. The advantage of cargo flights is the ability to simultaneously transport larger volumes of cargo without dividing it into several flights, and the possibility of transporting bulky cargo that cannot be accommodated in passenger aircraft, explains Eligijus Jentkus, head of aviation cargo development at Riga Airport.

“Lufthansa Group is a long-term and stable cooperation partner of Riga Airport, and we are happy that Riga Airport is the first Baltic airport where Lufthansa Cargo starts such regular air cargo flights,” he emphasizes.

“Lufthansa Cargo” Nordic and Baltic region sales manager Hennings Oldendorf notes that Riga is an important logistics center, especially for the IT and health industries, but in his opinion, the company’s capacities will also be useful for other industries that require fast air transportation. He emphasizes that the new connection will be important for the entire region, considering that the aviation cargo segment of Riga Airport is developing.

“Lufthansa Cargo” cargo flights to Riga will take place once a week using “Airbus A321F” aircraft with a maximum cargo capacity of 28 tons.
