At the meeting of the Bauska County Council, the deputies decided on a loan for the purchase of transport for the transportation of schoolchildren. In the Bauska district procurement “Delivery of lightly used buses for the needs of Bauska and Senior Citizens’ Association administrations”, only one applicant applied – JSC “Nordeka”.

Jānis Kalinka, the deputy executive director of the Bauska county council, explains that the competition could be confirmed as having taken place, even though only one candidate applied, because before that they announced a ten-day survey of applicants after learning about the situation. Therefore, the contract with the applicant will be concluded.
He also informed about the current situation: “There are six buses in the administration of the Association of Senior Citizens, from 1988 to the 2011 release. One of them can no longer pass technical inspection. Two buses are planned to be purchased here. Bauska’s association has 12 buses, and Bauska also plans to replace one 1998 bus. Iveco brand buses are offered for purchase – two buses with no less than 44 and no more than 53 seats and one bus with no less than 30 seats and no more than 44 seats. Each bus has been assessed, evaluated, and transport specialists have information about the condition of each bus. These are the 2023 model buses that are needed for self-transportation by the municipality, with an emphasis on student transport.»
Ilona Spurķe, head of the economic and financial department, informed the deputies of Bauska county about the draft decision at the council meeting on April 25. She said that the total cost is 659,450 euros. From this amount, the current financing of the municipality will be 65,945 euros, of which 54,450 euros have already been approved in the 2024 budget of the municipality, while the amount of borrowing will be 593,505 thousand euros. “After evaluating the offers of credit institutions, the loan is intended for seven years, it is expected to be withdrawn this year,” informed I. Spurke. The remaining amount of 11,495 euros is expected to be provided from the budget program “Co-financing of European Union funds and other projects”.

“For the elderly, two buses practically broke in half last year. Bauska also needs to renew its buses, there are old buses, over 20 years old. We are working on re-planning the routes, but we are aware that with this we can decide the fate of the schools if we do something differently”, informed the deputy chairman of Bauska region Aivars Maceks at the meeting of the finance committee on April 18. Deputy Mārtiņš Mediņš agreed that the issue is important: “I want to remind you that we already fought last year and did not get buses. At one point, the Association of the Elderly did not have anyone to take the children with, and we had to take them in small buses several times.”
