From May 3 to July 14, 2024, the textile exhibition of the Folk Applied Art Studio (TLMS) “Staļžene” will be on display at the Life and Crafts Farm, Vecpilsētas Street 2.

The studio of folk applied art of Jelgava region “Staļžene” has existed since 1973. From the beginning of its operation until today, the main goal of the studio is to preserve and popularize the skill and traditions of weaving the folk costume and fabric of the Zemgale region. The weavers workshop has nine looms and local weavers work here. The weavers of the Chakla studio have woven table brunches for the singers of their parish choir “Svīri”, individual brunch fabrics for the members of the parish folklore ensemble “Liepāre”, as well as shoulder scarves and white villaines for the regional dance groups. A lot of interesting and everyday useful things are made here – blankets, pillows, shawls, backpacks, purses, carpets, rugs. TLMS “Staļžene” has been managed by Rita Sidraba for almost 30 years.
