Two accidents occurred during the “Critical Mass” bike ride. Four administrative offense proceedings have been initiated

--

Several hundred cyclists took part in the bike ride, but it was not without incidents. One administrative violation process was initiated for using the phone while driving, one for crossing the street at a red light, and the third for failure to fulfill the duties of a police officer.

Also, the police have started an administrative violation process for the widely discussed case on social media, when the cyclist avoided fulfilling the policeman’s demands. In this case, the process has been started as a matter of fact and the identity of the cyclist is being ascertained.

Two traffic accidents also occurred during the bike ride. In one case, a cyclist ran into a parked car and was injured. On the other hand, in the second case, a cyclist and a police motorcycle collided.

It has already been reported that the event is intended to “remind politicians that Riga desperately needs a safe bicycle infrastructure suitable for everyone – both the smallest and the oldest”. The experience of previous years shows that the participants of the journey temporarily block the traffic in their directions of movement.
