Do you think the plan to restrict alcohol sales in the evening hours and early mornings will reduce alcohol consumption?

--

In order to find out the public’s thoughts on whether the plan, which tries to limit the time during which it will be possible to buy alcoholic beverages in retail – from Monday to Saturday, alcohol can be bought from 10.00 to 20.00, and on Sundays – from 10.00 to 18.00, will reduce the consumption of alcohol in the society, we went to the streets of Talsi to ask local residents and find out their opinion about it.

Daiga Zaļkalne from Talsiem: — We discussed it directly at home. And we decided: if a person needs alcohol for a party, he will buy it the day before. I don’t think this plan will affect alcohol consumption. Those who drink in corners will also drink and will always find something to drink. Even if the store does not sell as usual. We can already think and hope that it will change something, but I think that there will be no real change.

Maia from Talsi:
— I think that this will have absolutely no effect on alcohol consumption. Whoever wants it will buy it in time and put it in a bar at home, and when he wants, he will also drink it. Maybe it will affect some groups of people a little, but it will certainly not harm such large groups. Maybe more for some sudden urge to drink. Such restrictions, in my opinion, will affect 10% of all users. I think so. Of course, I don’t know how it will be.

Dzintra Peterson from Roja:
– Alcohol sales can and should be limited as much as possible. Maybe it won’t reduce the number of users, but still access will be a bit more difficult. Maybe “underground” trade will flourish again, but something needs to be done about it. The Latvian people drink quite a lot.

Normunds Sieberts from Talsi region:
— I don’t know if it will affect consumption, but it was long past time to do it.
