On Wednesday, May 1, several hundred cyclists went on the traditional “Critical Mass” bike ride in Riga. The State Police (VP) calls for the identification of the man seen in the video for obstructing a police officer from performing his duties. Likewise, in three more cases administrative violation proceedings have been initiated, and one person was injured, the portal “Delfi” learned from the police.

“In the specific case, the State Police officer ensured public order, as well as compliance with road traffic rules, but the bicycle driver interfered with the performance of the police officer’s duties, which the police officer pointed out to him several times. An administrative violation process has been initiated for the said fact and the police is explaining all the circumstances and calls those who recognize the bicycle driver seen in the video, as well as the bicycle driver himself, should contact us by calling the phone number 67829238,” police representative Leena Bagdone told the “Delphi” portal.

As previously announced, the event is intended to “remind politicians that Riga desperately needs a safe bicycle infrastructure that is suitable for everyone – both the smallest and the oldest”. The experience of previous years shows that the participants of the journey temporarily block the traffic in their directions of movement.
