The Youth International Programs Agency (JSPA) invites young people and youth workers to gain new knowledge, creative impressions and international experience in May. In the final month of spring, it is possible to apply for studies in Latvia, Austria, the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe, participate in events, as well as engage in various activities dedicated to Europe Day and Latvia’s 20 years in the European Union.

Voluntary work experience exchange visit

Representatives of organizations implementing voluntary work projects of the “European Solidarity Corps” program are invited to apply by May 6 for an experience exchange visit. It will take place on 17-18. in May in Riga with the aim of promoting the exchange of examples of good practice, diversifying support methods for including volunteers and promoting initiatives in the local community, creating partnerships between organizations and promoting the creation and implementation of a strategic volunteer work system.

Creative afternoon “What does participation look like?”

Young people are invited to a creative afternoon “What does participation look like?”, which will take place on May 18 in the youth capital of Latvia 2024 – Līvāni. In it, young people together with the artist Daini Rudeni or Autumn Stencil will look for an image of participation – what it would look like if there was, for example, a superhero, what abilities and skills make it and how to represent it visually. This workshop is a great opportunity to gain new artistic skills and meet like-minded people with similar interests. To participate, it is necessary to fill in until May 10 application form.

Project competition for school self-governments

For school self-governments that have participated in the 2024 JSPA-organized training on the development of self-governments of educational institutions, until May 17 at 23.59 it is possible to apply for support in the project competition “Support for the development of self-governments of educational institutions for the implementation of initiative projects of the “Contact” program”. “EuroPeers” co-creation afternoon “My European postcard – 20 years in the EU”

To celebrate Europe Day and Latvia’s 20 years in the European Union, the network of youth journalists “EuroPeers” will organize the second co-creation afternoon for young people “My European postcard – 20 years in the EU”. It will take place on May 9 at 16.00-19.30 in JIC “Mērķis” premises (Raiņa iela 3, Sigulda). Application for the event is possible until May 7.

European yard festival

Also on May 9 at 12.00 an event will be held in the Youth Capital of Latvia 2024 – Livani “European Yard Festival”. As part of this, in the tent of the European youth information network “Eurodesk”, it will be possible to learn about the opportunities for young people in the EU programs “Erasmus+” and “European Solidarity Corps”, activities in Latvia and play the “Eurodesk” large-format game. It will also be possible to participate in the activities organized by other institutions and organizations about Europe, its opportunities and the European Parliament elections.

Measures to implement the ideas of the European Youth Dialogue

This spring, 20 ambassadors of the European Youth Dialogue from all over Latvia are organizing ideas implementation measures, to draw public attention to the issues of an inclusive society. In total, activities will take place in five places in Latvia:

  • on May 5 at 12.30-14.30 in Svitene manor park, within the framework of the graffiti festival about an inclusive society “Colors without borders”, the event “Think, Do, Win!”;

  • on May 9 at 12.00-15.00 at the 1st secondary school of Livani and the Culture Center of Livani district, where the festival “European backyard festival”, the event “Young people in decisions” will take place;

  • on May 10 at 12.00-16.00 in the EU house, Aspazijas bulvāri 28, the event “ES Includes”;

  • on May 17 at 10.00-13.00 Liepa youth center, where the “Vidzeme NGO Youth Festival”, event “Youth path to inclusion” will take place;

  • on May 20 at 11.00-15.00 Kuldīga Central High School event “Where-is-inclusive-land?”.

International study opportunities

Young people and representatives of the youth field can apply for four international studies in May. They will be held in Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland and Belgium in July, September and October 2024. The training is offered by national agencies of the “Erasmus+” program in cooperation with the SALTO Resource Center.

  • Young people who have participated in one of the EU programs “Erasmus+” youth field or “European Solidarity Corps” projects have the opportunity to apply until May 12 EuroPeers for learning, to become a EuroPeers ambassador. They will take place from July 10 to 14 in Graz, Austria.

  • Youth project managers, youth workers, participation enthusiasts and other interested parties have the opportunity to apply until May 13 for studies for high-quality participation of young people and its promotion in their organization. They will be held from September 23 to 27 in Leiden, the Netherlands.

  • Organization representatives are invited to apply for the seminar until May 24 “Design thinking – partnerships for cooperation” on the type of projects of the 2nd core activity “Partnerships for cooperation” of the “Erasmus+” program. It will take place in Dublin, Ireland from 16 to 18 September.

  • On the other hand, youth workers and those involved in work with young people who use sports activities in their daily work with young people (up to the age of 30) can apply for training throughout May until June 3 “Sports practice”. They will be held from October 13 to 18 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Schedule an application for the “Project Night” festival

In the middle of May, it is planned to announce the application for the annual JSPA festival for young people “Project Night”, which will be held this year from July 31 to August 1 in the Latvian youth capital 2024 – Līvānos. During that 24-hour period, it will be possible to develop your project idea by participating in workshops on the possibilities of EU programs “Erasmus+” and “European Solidarity Corps”, thematic priorities and the skills required for preparing project applications. More information will be published on the JSPA website and other communication channels.
