In 2023, celebrating the 90th birthday of Imantas Ziedoņas, the municipality of Tukuma region created a new tourist route together with the culture and tourism people of the city of Jūrmala Catch Ziedoni! The route still invites you to get to know the poet’s life, personality and work, traveling the paths of his childhood and youth. To promote the route, an electric train set with cherry blossom windows and a “butterfly attack” was created. In the people, the composition of the train was also called Flower trainwhich, as in the previous year, invites you to travel around Latvia and see its beauty.
This year, the end of April surprised everyone in Latvia with snow, and winter tried to delay the onset of flowering. But blooming is inevitable, as are the changing seasons.
“One night, the forest entered the city. From the beginning, people didn’t understand what it meant.” – this is how Imanta Ziedoņa begins The green fairy tale. To encourage you to see, feel and catch Ziedoni in the nature of Latvia, in everyone’s personal feelings and literature, this year Flower train green just like the poet’s city In the green fairy talebringing with it the smell of green.
Imants Ziedonis has been an enthusiastic traveler – he has walked around his native Latvia and stayed in many countries beyond its borders, observing nature and describing it. Also in fairy tales. “Colorful fairy tales” were written in 1973. They are bright and play with the reader – both small and large. Fairy tales contain great life wisdom and an invitation to co-create and think: “Do you remember how the forest came to the city last year? When he left, I was really sorry, I wanted to go with him. He will come again this year. You just never know when.”
