From today, the maximum permitted driving speed will be increased on certain sections of national roads

In Latvia, the maximum permitted driving speed will be increased on certain sections of national roads from today, representatives of VSIA “Latvijas valsts ceļi” (LVC) informed the agency LETA.

LVC states that the maximum permitted driving speed will be increased to 110 kilometers per hour (km/h) on the section of the Jurmala highway (A10) from Riga to Jurmala.

On the other hand, driving speed up to 100 km/h will be allowed in three sections – on the section of the Daugavpils highway (A6) from Salaspils to Ikškilei, on the section of the Tīnūžu-Koknese highway (P80) from Ogresgal to Koknese, as well as on the section of the Jelgava highway (A8) from Riga to Jaunolainei.

LVC adds that last year the driving speed on the Jelgava highway section was not changed during the summer season, however, after evaluating the traffic accident statistics, it was concluded that it is possible to increase the permitted driving speed on this section during the summer season.

At the same time, the speed will not be increased on the Saulkrasti bypass section of the Tallinn highway (A1), because last year, compared to 2022, the number of road traffic accidents on it increased by 58%. Accordingly, the maximum driving speed on this highway is no higher than 90 km/h, in some sections it is lower.

LVC reminds that from April 15 on the section of the Vidzeme highway (A2) from Langstiņi to Sigulda, where the changing electronic road signs operate, the maximum permitted driving speed in favorable conditions is up to 110 km/h. In case of bad weather, repairs, road traffic accidents or other disturbances, the maximum driving speed may change.

On the other hand, on the four-lane section of the Ķekava bypass from Krogsil to the crossing of the Riga bypass, the maximum permitted speed for vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons is 120 km/h.

LVC emphasizes that the section from Krogsil to the crossing of the Riga bypass is marked with a road sign “Highway road”, which allows a maximum driving speed of up to 120 km/h and prohibits slow-speed vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists from using this section.
