Unfortunately, today, on April 29, it became known that one of the best-known people in Latvia has passed away. His name has meant a lot to Latvia, because his work for Latvia was also not insignificant.
From 1987 to 1994, he worked in state and non-governmental organizations, and from 1995 to 2010 – at “SEB bank”, and from 2007 to 2009 he held the position of chief economist in this bank.
From 2005 to 2010, he worked in the Financial Industry Association, was the head of the Economic and Monetary Committee.
Later, he was also active in the 10th and 11th Saeima, where he ran from the “Vienotība” association, but from 2010 to 2014 he was the Minister of Finance of Latvia. He was also Latvian state representative at the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the Northern Investment Bank and the Bank of the Council of Europe.

In 2008 and 2009, he was the then Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis, and in 2009 and 2010, he was the freelance economic and financial adviser to Prime Minister Valdas Dombrovskis.
From 2016 to 2020, he was the executive director and member of the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, as well as from 2017 to 2019 – the deputy head of the Audit Committee, in 2016 – the senior advisor of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg, and in 2013 and in 2014 – Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where he represented the country of Latvia.

In autumn 2020, the Saeima elected him as a member of the Board of the Bank of Latvia for a five-year term, which came into effect on November 16 of the same year.
He received the Order of the Cross of the Earth of Mara of Estonia.
Andris Vilks was born on June 15, 1963, and passed away at the age of 60 after a long struggle with a serious illness.
