The criminal process against the person was started on March 26 of this year, when the service found several video messages published by this person on the video sharing platform “TikTok” in Russian. The person in the video calls published on “TikTok” expressed support for Russia and its extended military aggression against Ukraine, as well as aggressively and hostilely addressed Latvians and other residents of Latvia who support Ukraine.

On April 25, the service also carried out criminal procedural activities in one person-related facility near Riga. During the criminal proceedings, the service took out several data carriers, personal records, as well as clothing and other items with symbols of Russia and the Soviet Union for further investigation.

The person came to the attention of the VDD as early as 2023 in connection with aggressive comments on the social networking site “Facebook”, in which he expressed support for Russia.

In August last year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications conducted preventive discussions with this person, warning that his activities in the Internet environment are approaching criminal offenses for which criminal liability is provided.

The suspect has been remanded in custody as a security measure.
