On May 4, at 7 p.m., an open-air concert of the Latvian music legend, the band “Turaidas Roze” will take place in Bauska’s Town Hall Square. Celebrating the anniversary of the restoration of the Independence of the Republic of Latvia, the group will present the audience with the most beautiful songs of the composer Imantas Kalniņš. Folk dance collective “Madara” with whom singer Olga Rajecka will dance will also delight the gathered on the day of the holiday, Kristiāna Paula Lībiete, representative of the Bauska Culture Center, informed the portal.

“It seems that everyone has their own humming song, which changes depending on the mood or situation, when the words of the song can be expressed more precisely and directly. The songs of Imantas Kalniņas do not have melodies that are easier to hum or whistle, but they unite generations, and the songs are sung by grandparents and listened to by young people. All the songs of Imanta Kalniņas are very beautiful and special, so for this concert we have chosen both songs with wonderful texts by Vik and other most popular compositions of “Turaidas Roze” – “Troubadūrs”, “Apvij rokas”, “Vējš un liepa”, “Kas vius esat” ”, says Olga Rajecka and adds that there will be no premieres, although there will also be a lesser-heard song, which can be a discovery for many.
The ensemble “Turaidas Roze” was founded in 1985, and its most expressive musical calling card was composer Imants Kalniņš, as well as soloists Olga Rajecka and Uģis Roze, becoming an indispensable asset of Latvian pop music in the 80s of the last century.
