This week, from April 22 to 26, representatives from the “CIVICUS” organization – a global alliance that unites civil society activists around the world – are visiting Latvia. The Civil Alliance of Latvia (LPA) together with the association “Latvijas Platforma tejstilsės sadarbės” (LAPAS) are members of “CIVICUS” and organize the reception of international guests in Latvia.

“CIVICUS” representatives are coming to Latvia within the framework of the project “Strengthening the CIVICUS alliance”, which will be dedicated to improving the efficiency, influence and sustainability of members. It will focus on promoting international cooperation to strengthen the impact of CIVICUS and its members. The meeting will focus on working sessions in three groups of CIVICUS global coalitions and regional meetings:

  • AGNA” is a global group of national associations and regional platforms for cooperation across national and regional borders;

  • VUCA!” is a global alliance of civil society organizations with the aim of promoting the resilience of civil society by building solidarity and promoting new forms of organization;

  • The other members of the “CIVICUS” platform groups will meet in the working sessions of the regional meetings.

CIVICUS” representatives will also be introduced to Riga and its diversity during the visit. On Monday, the guests were taken on an excursion to “Your Friends”, showing Latvia’s so important support for Ukraine and treating them with a Ukrainian home-baked cake, on Wednesday they will visit the Āgenskalns market and dance Latvian dances, and during the week they will visit the Art Museum RIGA BIRŽA and the Art Nouveau buildings of the quiet center. The program will also be special on Wednesday morning, when an address is expected from Andreja Pildegovič, head of the Secretariat’s Special Tasks Ambassador-Secretariat for Latvia’s candidacy to the UN Security Council.

“CIVICUS” was founded in 1993 with the aim of promoting the development and protection of civic activities worldwide. The organization has more than 15,000 members from 175 countries. The visit of “CIVICUS” to Latvia is financed by the European Commission.
