TV3 journalist Ieva Varna and cameraman Sergejs Medvedevs are currently in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, affected by Russian attacks.

According to the journalist Varna, Russia sends its blows to the city both during the day and at night. For example, in the city of Kharkiv, on the night of Monday, May 6, around half past three, an explosion occurred, causing extensive damage to residential buildings in the city center.

Another explosion occurred in the evening of May 6, when TV3 had already arrived in Kharkiv. At around five o’clock the anti-aircraft defense went off and an explosion was heard in the distance.

On the other hand, in the impact of the one and a half ton aerial bomb in the Kupjanska district, almost the entire settlement was destroyed, 11 people were injured and one woman was killed.

People are trying to adapt to life in war conditions. Despite the fact that Kharkiv has been suffering from increased Russian attacks since March of this year. In the strikes of the occupiers, thermal power stations were completely destroyed, part of the city is still without electricity.

When Russia started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, only 300,000 of the two million inhabitants remained. At the beginning of this year, 1,800,000 inhabitants were already registered. But in response to recent strikes, people have started to leave the city again.

The strikes are launched from Belgorod, the launches can reach the city in 40 seconds. The alarm siren does not even manage to work when the city already experiences these shocks.

The Ukrainian military already reported over the weekend that there is a concentration of Russian forces near the border. On Monday, May 6, this was also expressed by the US Institute of War Research in its report.

Russia is reportedly massing more than 50,000 troops on the Kharkiv side of the border. The city of Kharkiv could be one of Russia’s targets in the coming weeks.

What we know now and what the Ukrainian military is saying is that an offensive could begin in the coming weeks. The main directions could be Kharkiv, Donetsk region and Sumy.
