By participating in the competition, you can appreciate how much and good work was invested in creating a machine, ship or paper airplane. And also discover what mistakes have been made. 89 children from different parts of Latvia came to the festival of technical creativity in Valmiera.

Alex: “I do model cars because I’m interested in rallying and cars.”

Marcus: “I participate in car models because I like cars myself, I’m only interested in cars on TV every day, I don’t watch anything else.”

Karl: “I really like ships, so I thought I could make one myself, and I managed to make this one out of a laser.”

The competition took place in seven disciplines. Biggest approval – for wooden model car speed and ship model competitions.

Technical creativity days are being organized for the first time in Valmiera, but such events have been held many times in Latvia. According to the organizers, it is even nationally important – to move children towards technical thinking.

Zygmunds Zalenko, the head of the creative technical group of the Bročeni Cultural Center, explained that the children learn engineering skills, which are useful in choosing their professions: “Maybe some talent “opens up” to someone, because we need engineers in the country more than anything else, so that we can develop industry.”

Agija Weinberga, the deputy director of Valmiera youth center “Vinda” in the field of education, said that technical creativity is becoming more popular: “The nuance is that we assemble smaller groups in technical creativity, because this individual work is very important there.”

In Valmiera and also in other cities, more and more parents want their children to take interest education classes directly in technical clubs.

Often at the beginning of the school year, when the application process begins, places for classes fill up quickly. And such competitions also create more motivation in children.

“We have been inspired by our colleagues in Jelgava and Bročeni, where such competitions or festivals of technical creativity have taken place before, and inspired by our colleagues, we realized that here in Vidzeme, at the youth center “Winda”, we also want to organize such an event,” said Weinberga.

Meanwhile, Zaļenko assessed – if we had as many participants in technical innovation in Latvia as in the Song and Dance Festival, Latvia would be golden and prosperous in a few years.
