The German language has long roots in Latvia. There are more teachers of this language in Latvia than teachers of Spanish, French or other popular European countries. More than a hundred students are currently learning German as a second foreign language at the Tukumas Raina State Gymnasium, however, one teacher is not enough to completely abandon the teaching of the Russian language. The German Embassy and other organizations are also ready to support schools during the transition period, which are visiting several educational institutions in Latvia this week.
Tukuma Raiņa Valsts ģimnāzijas pamatakmeni 1927. gadā ieguldījis toreizējais izglītības ministrs, dzejnieks Rainis, kuram vācu valoda nebija sveša. Vācu valodas mēnesī aprīlī skolēni ar savas skolas vēsturi un ikdienu iepazīstina viesus no Vācijas vēstniecības. Skola ir ar mūzikas novirzienu, tāpēc spēlēšana un dziedāšana skolēniem šeit ir tikpat ierasta kā elpošana.
