The 15th anniversary concert of the women’s dance group “Papardīte” “Ziedu virpulī” in Stalbe Tautas nama was
a testament to the joy of dancing. Not only Stalbe women, but also groups of friends performed, creating dancing joy for themselves and the audience, and in the end, partying together.
The leader of the collective, Ginta Berke, reveals that while learning the dance “Red Flower”, a vision arose that it could be used to open the anniversary concert. That’s how the name of the event about the whirlwind of flowers came about: “Ladies learn different dances, which are like a whirlwind of flowers, in which they can express themselves in different rhythms and dance styles. In addition, each dancer is like a flower – so different and gorgeous.”
Currently, there are six dancers in the group, who together have a wealth of dance experience, but the group is also happy to welcome new members. “I recommend not to be afraid and learn the experience that you can dance not only in pairs, because the dance culture is much broader. Historically, there have often been women’s dance groups, it is always a way to indulge in the magic of dance. There are special festivals designed for straight ladies’ dance groups,” reminds the leader of the group. The dance group has both participants who have danced before, as well as those who come without experience, get to know the magic of movements and stay in the group.
Although G. Berke has not been leading the group since the first day of the dance group’s creation, it has been a long time with the ladies who are close to dance. “Until then, I had worked with children’s and youth dance groups. When I received an offer to lead a collective for ladies, I tried and continued. The ladies have an inexhaustible love for dance, movement, and there is always fun and laughter in the group. Yes, we work seriously to achieve the desired result, but there is always room for humor. Our dances are also mostly jesters, because there is enough seriousness in life. We also sew the clothes ourselves, we sew what is needed for a beautiful overall image.”
Sharing her feelings about the festive event, the manager says: “What would a birthday be without friends, so we were very happy for those who came. It was felt that everyone was satisfied and happy, we received good words about how cozy and hospitable we were. We tried to make it so. Thanks to the cultural workers who helped us. In our opinion, the event was really successful.”
“Papardīte” performs every month in different places of the county and Latvia, celebrating holidays together with groups of friends. Welcoming revelers with coffee and cake together is a must. Along with rehearsals and concerts, “Papardīte” has its own traditions, such as joint excursions.
