As for the upbringing, Justine says: “Of course, he was not perfect. But I was given a very good background from both parents [Justīnes mamma ir arhitekte Liene Kulakova – red.]. My childhood was neither exemplary nor ordinary, but it was very happy.
Dad and mom loved me very much, and that’s the most important thing for a child.”
Justine remembers: although dad was not always exemplary, he taught what was right. For example, in his teenage years, his father took him to friends’ parties and always announced: no more than one glass of alcohol! On the other hand, my mother has warned me not to get involved in a relationship with a man if he does not propose.
It has already been reported that Juris Kulakovs passed away on February 12 at the age of 65. Farewell to the composer took place on February 17 in the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Riga.
After the farewell ceremony in Riga, Juris was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the family cemetery in Livani.
Shortly after her father’s death, Justine revealed his last wish, which she promised to fulfill: “Father wanted his descendants to manage his musical legacy. And he had already done that. I am his only daughter, so I have to take that responsibility. Then I will do everything in my best conscience to keep his music alive. Being a musician helps me better understand and manage it.”
