The investigators informed that the search was carried out in the offices of Kra and his assistant Jiang Guo based on the order of the German investigating judge and the European warrant. The permission to access the premises was also granted by the European Parliament.
A group of more than 20 people could be seen in the hallway near the MP’s office on Tuesday, but journalists were not allowed to approach the area. Later, the lawyers confirmed that the politician does not have the status of a suspect in the investigation.
Guo, a German citizen, worked for Kra since his election in 2019 and is accused of working for China’s intelligence service, as well as passing on information about negotiations and decisions in the European Parliament. He may also have spied on Chinese dissidents in Germany.
Meanwhile, political experts remind that Krā is the leading candidate of his party in the upcoming European Parliament elections on June 9. The investigation is another blow to his reputation, already tarnished by his pro-Russia stance.
