As “Business Insider” reports, since the beginning of May, videos with a Russian tank turtle appear more and more often on social media. The tank is aptly named as it is covered in metal armor on all sides except for the front where the barrel protrudes. It all resembles a turtle. Rob Lee, a senior researcher at the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies, revealed that the Turtle Tank was involved in a mid-April attack by Russia’s 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade on the eastern Ukrainian city of Krasnohorivka. Lee speculated that this unusual tank may have a “minesweeping function”.
“I know people laugh at it, but I don’t think it’s a crazy application. The Russians are adapting to specific combat conditions where Ukraine does not have enough anti-tank mines and artillery,” Lee said.
